Varied Strategies of Strength Training: While powerlifters have defined periods in which to organize training, and athletes are capable of concentrating on a distinct region more often than not, a tactical athlete are going to be required to work via a number of rep ranges, strength spectrum levels, and varieties of conditioning all inside a training cycle. Inside the realm of the tactical athlete, not becoming strong or fit in a specific region can mean the distinction between life and death of not merely themselves, but members of their team. As a way to insure that each location is maintained or developed by the tactical athlete, it's imperative that the use of Undulating Periodization is used. In a general sense, it means that you need to use all rep ranges in the course of any training week. In this case, the use of near maximal rep ranges (1-3), functional hypertrophy (4-6), standard hypertrophy (8-12) and endurance ranges (15-maximal) all will probably be implemented into the program.

Do Ankle/Wrist Weights Have Positive Or Negative Effects?
I'm 14, and I've been looking into ankle/wrist weights, and I've heard good and bad things about them. Does anyone know which is more powerful: The positives or negatives? Thanks
Hi Grayson,
First of all, you didn't mention how heavy the weights you plan to use are, nor did you mention how many minutes or hours per day you plan to use them for. It matters.
In my opinion, one- or two-pound weights are probably okay if you're basically in good physical shape--but 'keep your ear to your body'--if it doesn't feel right to you, if some muscles are feeling overworked and some underworked, or if you feel your joints are being stressed, then set the weights aside and look into Yoga, Tai Chi, or something like that as a way to go.
Ankle/wrist weights are an 'open chain' way to exercise as opposed to a 'closed chain' way to exercise (see wikipedia for definitions). Too much weight around the ankle when you're walking around (open chain) can throw off your gait in a negative way and put unnatural stress on your knees. Heavy cuff weights on the wrists (also open chain) can cause problems with the arms, too, by overexercising some muscles and not exercising others effectively, which can contribute to muscle imbalances.
Here's the big problem with most of the exercise tools we see advertised on US TV--they are designed to strengthen specific muscle groups without regard to function. Even if they claim to exercise all muscle groups, people tend to stick to their favorite exercises. Thus these exercisers lend themselves to muscle imbalances. Not good.
Take the "ab exercise" devices, for example, which do NOT flatten the tummy and, in fact, are more likely to create muscle imbalances that lead to back pain. Take gym enthusiasts who want big biceps, but forget (or don't know) about the importance of trunk stabilization muscles for shoulder and arm strength--they might be setting themselves up for shoulder rotator cuff problem--and believe me, rotator cuff problems aren't fun; they're painful and difficult to correct.
In my opinion, disciplines like (conventional) yoga are the best way to go.
In these credit crunch times, this relatively low price (and in some instances free) fitness technique is increasingly well-known. The pure simplicity and effectiveness of approaches honed over several years, and tried and tested on millions of soldiers down the years is incredibly powerful.
Make sure you shop around: Don't settle for the first piece of equipment you come across. You need to go to 2 or extra internet sites or stores so you may compare the prices plus the functions of the equipment obtainable. You may also wish to do some investigation on the net to establish what the average price and capabilities are out there for the equipment you might be looking to purchase. Any time you'll be able to uncover a item review, take advantage of reading it. Take into consideration all costs involved. You are going to be surprised at how promptly transportation, shipping, installation as well as other associated costs can add up. Thus, ensure that you calculate all of the possible expenses prior to acquiring your house fitness physical exercise equipment, so you know you may afford every single aspect of obtaining it and having it ready to make use of.
